okay, technically, this is not really a synth.. but for those of you out there who remember all the silly fun you can have with beat slicing, this is just too much..

i am so totally going to get this up and running in mhy system. the product i used back in the day was recycle. i think it was a steinberg product.

half of me wants to get a laptop just to run linux and cart this shit around. ok.. that may be a little excessive, but i would be you could totally get a laptop and run linux on it for about the cost of reason or reaktor.

dammit.. i am not going to do it.. but i am gonna think about it alot… that’s for sure..

okay…

here is the answer to my previous question.. in order to get this thing to work correctly, you have to have jack (jackd) intstalled..

if you were looking for the answer to the question below, there it is for ya..

i’ll keep you posted on my progress..

okay, i installed rosegarden, got it compiled, but i keep getting all sorts of errors having to do with the sequencer device. i am sure i just need to install something else (a synth maybe?) to get this thing working. but i will press on..

maybe there is some sort of sequencer i need to add to my fc3 setup.

for the dorks out there, here is the error i am getting…

ALSA lib seq_hw.c:446:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file or directory

more news (hopefully good) later..

this looks really interesting. as i have said, i have ordered this book..

the interesting part is the part on dssi.. the disposable synth interface.

i think my plan of attack on getting a music system set up on linux is going to be:

  • set up a sequencer.
  • set up jacks to run as the interconnect.
  • set up some synths to play with…

the folks over at sound on sound take a look at studio to go. i find this interesting in that sound on sound usually caters to musicians. it’s nice to see that linux is starting to move into the creative realm without too much pain.

this looks like a great idea. the idea is just like knoppix or any of the other bootable linuxes, but it comes with a ton of linux software ready to rock and roll. i doubt i will try it, just because the price tag is kinda high, and i have two machines that run linux all day.

i do like the software choices they made, and for someone who is new to linux, this would be the score way to go.
