fat joe.. note: this is not a review of the album. check the above link for a real review.. i am just babbling here.

i’m with jason on this one, too..

this is some funny shit. this is the one thing i don’t understand about rap, and the one reason i call bullshit on so many accounts.

i call bullshit mostly because i have found in life that most things in life make sense. if they don’t, they are bullshit.. most of the time.

anyway.. think about hard rap.. basically, it’s a dude spouting off about how high he gets, how much booty he rocks, how much bling bling he’s got, and how many niggas he shot..

okay.. the first three are crap. sure..

the booty is booty like boone’s farm is wine.. it will get you drunk, but it’s still low grade crap.. if you define getting booty as getting with a female.. a whole world opens up.. and man is that an ugly ass world..

getting high all the time is retarded.. no one who busts enough ass to have a hit record gets that high.. we called snoop dogg out on this once.. but heard nothing.. (i NEED to find that old blog entry..)

i have commented on bling bling already.. but if the rap world is like the rest of the music business, these sukka mc’s should realize that their bling bling is rented.. and in a year or so, they are gonna be back living in their mama house..

and last but not least. how many niggaz he done shot.. doesn’t it seem whack that someone could make a record talking about the people he killed and no one would listen to it and bust em? i am sure that if i wrote a song about cheating on my taxes or parking longer than 20 minutes on main street, the fuzz would come down on me hard..

the reason no one cares is because these cats are lying..

not that i follow the rap world.. but if killing niggaz and writing about it is such a big deal, why haven’t we heard a rap from the guys who shot biggie and tupac? i mean come on.. that is some big game now.. that is like taking out a spotted rhino at 300 yards.. i would brag about that if i were them..

think about it.. if you kill someone and rap about it.. no one cares..

so let’s hear the story on top of some fat beats..

kanye west note: this is not a review of the album. check the above link for a real review.. i am just babbling here.

okay, i have been listening to the hype on kanye west for the past year or so, and not being a huge fan of hip hop (although i do really like stuff that is new and inventive) i have not checked out kanye west.

finally, a few weeks ago, i did it. i listened to this album in its entirety. once.

frankly, i am TOTALLY with this reviewer. i am not sure where the rest of the world is coming from on this. saying kanye west is the new p. diddly is akin to saying he’s the new jan brady. the old one is not that interesting either.

reading jason’s review, it was good to see he had the insight to know where all the samples came from. it’s nice to know that he has been into this for awhile…

but this whole sampling thing is starting to get on my nerves. it seems to be a pretty simple affair to build a song around a loop that everyone knows.. at least subconciously.. and are drawn to. there is no magic in this..

finally.. if i hear about bling bling one more time, i am gonna die in my tracks.

WARNING: ahead be racial talk.. the white elephant in the room that no one will talk about.. i am about to pull his trunk. if you are a PUSS.. stop reading now.

is it just me who thinks that bling bling is a sham by the man? think about it. we have taught the black community to help each other out.. to help each other be successful.. to make money. LOTS of money, and to do it quickly and efficiently. this is a really good thing..

but, rather than teaching them to keep it in their communities… to help educate their communities.. we have taught them to go out, take all the money from their communities, and bring it back to the MAN. the jewelers, the real estate agents in the hamptons, the car dealers..

it baffles me.. the logic goes.. rap about how messed up your community is.. rap about how acceptable it is to behave like a savage (yes, killing each other and fathering more people than you can provide for, and robbing people, making the sex on people against their will.. yes, that is savage.. and retarded..) make a shithouse full of money doing this.. bring me and my friends all the money.. repeat..

think about it.. this logic is retarded.. am i the only one who doesn’t get it?

anyway.. enough about that.. the album did nothing for me..

in kanye’s defense.. i did hear a live show he did at the bbc… if you listen on saturdays, they will play pieces of it.. and there were some great moments on it..

but i am with jason.. i have had enough of bling bling and nigga talk..

U2 - Deep Cuts - From Bullzeye.com

hey, john..

this is sergio.. i work with bullz eye also, and i just read your treatise on u2.. very nice! you did a good job at digging around at a band that was once my favorite band ever.

just so you know, i am posting this to my blog also..

here are some things i would add.. i was a huge u2 fan from boy to joshua tree.. still have all the albums on vinyl…. that is THE way to listen to these albums.. but anyway… my picks..

NOT in chronological order or order of preference….

joshua tree had some GREAT b-sides.. most notably, “the sweetest thing” and “spanish eyes.” both songs turned up on a greatest hits album somewhere.. but they are not the versions that are on those original b-sides.. the covers to the singles were awesome.. shot by anton corbijn…

one of the breakthrough albums was red rocks.. the cool thing about that album was that there were two vinyl versions. one of them had a different version of electric co. on it.. i had a girlfriend at the time who had the first version. if i remember correctly, it had an interlude of america and send in the clowns on it. the version i and the rest of my friends had cut that whole part out. it is REALLY noticeable once you have heard the full version. unfortunately, that version of the song left with that girlfriend. it must be 20 years since i have heard that version..

“christmas, baby please come home..” my favorite song off the phil specter christmas record. this was a staple of southern california christmas. to hear it played by my favorite band at the time was well.. intense..

“the unforgettable fire..” the title track off this album.. let’s not forget that brian eno was a huge part of this album. the title track really shows that this match was made in heaven. in retrospect, this is probably my favorite u2 album.

“shadows and tall trees..” from boy. this song was probably my first favorite song of the 80’s based purely on songwriting. this song should be required listening.. on an ipod.. in the middle of nowhere.. when you really should be somewhere..

“october” from october.. this is one of the simplest songs ever.. it’s also one of the most intricate.. the girlfriend mentioned above scrawled the lyrics on my spanish book when i was a kid once.. it was october.. and i didn’t care.. this is another great example of how powerful a few piano notes can be… almost like a “pink moon” part 2..

“drowning man” - war… this was when i remember things picking up.. with war.. but .. this song is so over the top, it seemed like it was written for every kid who thought right now was forever.. and forever was tomorrow. it was a soundtrack to enjoy the moment with. the moon over south mountain.. it’s a song about now.. right now.. the kind of right nows that only happened 20 years ago.

that’s all for now.. but i totally dug your article..
