when i heard that howard stern was moving to sirius, i was kind excited. well, not terribly, but kinda. i used to like listening to howard back in the day, before the advent of internet and satellite radio. the only REAL reason i stopped listening was that there were too many commercials. i had a drive time of around half an hour, and there would be days when i would hear only commercials for 25 of those minutes. commercial free options were released, and i was an early ditcher of broadcast radio.
now, keep in mind that howard has only been on for four days now, and i have only tuned in about five times for about ten minutes each over those days. i will check in in over the next few days, i suppose, just to be fair, but here are my findings:
- there is way too much cussing. i enjoy dropping a well placed f-bomb just as much as anyone else, but these guys are a little obsessive about it. not that howard is the main culprit. the guys on his show tend to drop all the sweet ones. howard does use the f-bomb in context. my gripe about the cussing is that it sounds like i am in the seventh grade lunch room or playing a game of counterstrike. they cuss too much like little kids, and not like grown ups. the other downside is that unless you work in a gas station, most workplaces are not the place the listen to the show. i would guess that most folks listen at work. this is gonna be a problem. i wouldn’t be really surprised if they change the cussing ratio pretty soon to keep their working patrons tuning in.
- dammit. there are still commericals. i have a two minute drive time to work. the whole drive time this morning was taken up by a commercial for apple vacations. i now know that i can get laid if i go on an apple vacation, but not much else. the whole reason i got sirius was to avoid commercials. i think over the next few days, i will take some random samples to get a feel for how bad it really is.
in general, with the above being said, i think howard’s show is more geared towards those with OCD, and not for use with ADD. more later, if i find that there is more to discuss.

i grew up in southern california.. listened to mark and brian too.. i went to one of their drive in gigs too..
right before i moved to ohio..
i had a pack of ciggies autographed by them, since that’s all i had.. i have no idea where that dang pack ever went.. that was 14 years ago or so..
dammit. i wish i could get mark and brian on internet radio.. that would be the coolest!
What a coincidence, the night I met them I also got an autograph, and as I remember it, the guy in front of me in line got a pack of Camels autographed. I even remember Brian saying, “Ahhh, La Camels” when he signed it. It was a Halloween themed event, and they were showing Son of Frankenstein, Young Frankenstein, and Frankenweenie.
