Ashland Universe Screenshot This is a really sweet project that i should give more air time to. the company i work for, Red Red Design, was contracted by Ashland University to build a virtual 3d replica of the campus. sounds interesting, but it does get more interesting. the campus model had to have the following aspects..

  • it had to be navigable from anywhere on earther (or in space, i guess) that has an internet connection.
  • you had to be able to chat with other users on the system in real time
  • accounts had to be able to be generated on the fly at any time for new users.
  • there had a be a back end that helped adminster the site. this would allow students to work the site and refer prospective students.
  • the experience had to be totally immersive.

there is a whole lot more to it than that, but that should give you enough of a glimpse to get the gist of it. the coolest thing is that AU opened the site to anyone and everyone. free of charge. sure, i got NO sleep during the time we were putting this together (and my programming skills got REALLY sharp) but the product we built is amazing.. it was really slick working with such a forward thinking group.. the idea that AU had was.. cater to what kids are REALLY doing today.. and ladies and gentlemen.. this is it..
